New Delhi: Hollywood film ‘Dredd’ is also releasing this week. The science fiction film is directed by Pete Travis while Alex Garland has donned the hat of the writer. The central character of the film is modelled on the lines of a comic book character Judge Dredd.
The film is based in future when America has been reduced to a waste land. A fictional city Mega City One has been erected where 800 million people live, but the city is not devoid of crime. On an average, 17,000 different types of crimes take place in this city in one day. However, the city’s biggest problem is something else. A new drug called ‘Slo-Mo’ is getting popularity in this city which has the potential of changing one’s perception of time.
Now, Dredd’s reliability is on stake who is expected to take action on the people behind this deadly drug. The only thing which makes Judge Dredd different from normal judges is that he acts as the jury and executioner also.
Karl Urban is playing the role of Judge Dredd who is supposedly a person without any prejudice. Karl Urban is not a new face but he has not anything as challenging as ‘Dredd’ in the past. The simple reason that makes ‘Dredd’ a difficult film for anyone is the presence of helmet on Dredd’s face. Any actor would find it irritating; however the list of problems doesn’t end here. Urban was required to show everything just with the help of his body language.
The film is adapted from a comic series, so the spectators would be hoping for good graphics. In last some years, the quality of animation has gone up, so ‘Dredd 3D’ needs to match up the expectation levels on this front also.
