New Delhi: Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi died of a gunshot wound to the head, confirmed an autopsy report on Sunday. The autopsy was carried out in Misrata and sources are now saying that the body will be returned to the commercial freezer in the city where it was put up for public display earlier.
Libyan forensic doctors carried out an autopsy overnight on the body of Gaddafi, who was killed last week, one of the people involved in the autopsy told Reuters on Sunday.
The autopsy was carried out at a morgue in the city of Misrata, about 200 km east of Tripoli.
Meanwhile, Libyans were seen lining up to catch a glimpse of the slain dictator's body and that of his son, which were put up for display. The National Transitional Council (NTC) said that it would treat The former dictator's body with dignity.
Even as rebel fighters in Benghazi are given a hero's welcome, the search is now on for Gaddafi's billions which are believed to be stashed away in secret accounts overseas.
