Mumbai: Will Shootout At Lokhandwala hit theatres this Friday? The movie – based on a real-life encounter – has run into trouble with a gangster Maya Dolas’s family. Dolas was one of the gangsters who were gunned down in the shootout in 1992.
First it was Dolas’ mother who filed a suit against Sanjay Gupta’s White Feather Films, now his brother Jeetu is dragging the filmmakers to court.
Talking exclusively to IBNLive.com, Jeetu Dolas said, “Tomorrow at 11 am, there is a High Court hearing regarding a stay on the release. Judge Rama Palay is the man who will take a crucial decision. First, we want our brother’s name removed from the movie as they have used his name without our permission.”
Jeetu said there were factual errors in the story and that the filmmakers were “exploiting” his brother’s name. “In the film, they have shown my brother killing my father when he was nine years old. Actually he died a natural death in 1997. They also proclaim that my mom pushed my brother into a world of crime. My mother wants to clarify that she was the first person after the death of my brother to apologise for the harassment caused by him. No one knows my mom used to pray in temples and churches in Mumbai and also our native place Lanja in Ratnagiri hoping her son would turn over a new leaf. I don’t know why are they exploiting my brother’s name to promote the film.”
If the High Court stays the movie, it could affect the likes of Vivek Oberoi, Tusshar Kapoor, Arbaaz Khan, Dia Mirza and Aarti Chhabria - whose sagging careers need a boost.
Also, it’s Abhishek Bachchan’s first release after his much-hyped wedding.
