The construction work on the North Overbridge will get a major boost with the Railways finalising on Monday the schedule for setting the steel girders on the side bays of the RoB.
According to Railway officials, nod has been given to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to lay girders on the side bays of the bridge on October 10 and 13.
“These are the two dates that have been allotted to the DMRC by the Thiruvananthapuram division of the Railways. We have forwarded the request to the Chennai headquarters. As per the plan, one hour each has been allotted on both the days,” said a top Railway official in Thiruvananthapuram.
According to him, the DMRC is expected to complete the setting up of each girder within one hour.
“The DMRC had initially requested one-and-a-half hours to set up the girders. However, we have decided on one hour so that it won’t affect the Railways timetable,” the official added.
The setting up of one girder is expected to be done between 12.20 a.m and 1.20 a.m. on October 10-11 and the other girder between 12.20 a.m. and 1.20 a.m on October 13-14.A DMRC official had earlier said that the work on the girders will begin on September 29. The date was later postponed to October 7.
A Railway official told City Express that the about the delay, it was revealed that the Railways received the request from the DMRC only on Monday. “ Railways received the request from the DMRC only on Monday. We immediately sanctioned the request. There must have been some technical delay in sending the request to us earlier,” the official said.Traffic will be regulated on these two days.
