New Delhi: President's Cup gold medallist Suranjoy Singh on Sunday arrived here at the wee hours to the warm welcome by boxing fans and officials.
Suranjoy, who won the yellow metal in 51 kg and also adjudged the best boxer of the tournament, was received at the Delhi International Airport by Indian Boxing Federation officials and fans with the beating of the traditional Dhol and banners.
Overwhelmed at the reception he got, the Manipuri boxer said his target was to win a medal for the country in 2012 London Olympics.
"My next objective is to win gold at the Commonwealth Championships in March 2010, Commonwealth Games in October 2010 and the Asian Games in November 2010. These would be stepping stones in the run-up to the London Olympics 2012," he said.
Suranjoy landed in New Delhi along with compatriot Nanao Singh, who made the first round exit in the competition in which boxers represented their confederations rather than their countries.
Suranjoy had beaten 2007 World Championship bronze medallist Nordine Oubaali of France 8-1 in the final to become the first Indian to win a gold in the President's Cup.
