KOCHI: The Senior Christians Association (SCA) will organise a seminar on 'Why Government/aided schools have become unattractive and the solutions'. The one-day seminar will be held on Friday at the SCA centre, Kakkanad. Former additional chief secretary D Babu Paul will inaugurate it. The seminar will cover topics like 'challenges faced by Kerala in the field of education', 'the reasons why the number of students are diminishing in overnment schools', 'the relationship between teachers and students', 'syllabus and text books and political interference in educational sector' among others. A special lecture on the role of unaided private schools in the educational system of the state will also be organised. "The SCA strongly feels that one of the areas which requires urgent attention in Kerala is the education sector, particularly school education. It is a matter of great concern that the government schools, which are running at a high cost, employing teachers selected on merit, and paying high salaries and other benefits to them, are by and large being ignored by the public," said SCA secretary Augustine Luke.He said that it was very important that the problems leading to this situation where these schools have become an unattractive proposition need to be probed into. “We are organising this event with this aim,” Luke added. The seminar will begin by 10 am and will conclude by 4.30 pm.
