The cloth bank ATMs have been placed in a farmer's market, Rythu Bazaar, Telangana and customers are asked to use them for procuring cloth bags.

In Visakhapatnam, the officials from the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation are trying to spread awareness regarding the protection of the environment. As per Local18 Telugu, the officials have initiated many programs like the Green Vizag, Eco Vizag and others to spread environmental knowledge amongst the public. They also encourage the public to opt for cloth bags instead of plastic ones.

The officials have started cloth bank ATMs to ensure that the second initiative is followed by many people. These ATMs have been placed in a farmer’s market, Rythu Bazaar, Telangana and customers are asked to use them for procuring cloth bags. The customers just need to deposit Rs 10 in the ATM and they will be handed a cloth bag in return. Thus, they can enjoy an environmentally safe shopping experience.

Besides the physical cash, there is a provision for digital transfers as well for paying the required price. Consumers can make use of a scanner at the ATMs and then transfer the money with the help of applications that facilitate electronic transfers. Till now, these cloth bank ATMs are only placed in the Rythu Bazaar. However, as per the officials, they will be installed at other places as well to curb the use of plastic. This step has been receiving appreciation from all corners of society as it highlights the authorities’ endeavour to protect the environment.

The natives living in the nearby areas are also delighted with this step. According to them, setting up the cloth bank ATMs is a wonderful step for the people living in the city. Another step that makes these machines helpful for customers is the additional help of a guide. The administration has deputed an expert at the site of the machines who will explain their working to the consumers. The expert also makes consumers aware of the ill effects of using plastic bags and convinces them to not borrow these from shopkeepers.

In general, the cloth bags have a lot of advantages over the plastic bags. One of them is the durability factor. Cloth bags are stronger and more durable than plastic bags. They are made of sturdy materials, such as canvas or cotton, which can withstand the weight of heavy items.
