New Delhi: Preparing to host Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit in 2015, a delegation of the state recently visited Canada to explore investment opportunities and encourage partnership in education and skill development. The three-day visit of the Vibrant Gujarat delegation, led by Gujarat Resident Commissioner Bharat Lal, also focused on promoting India and Gujarat as an attractive business and knowledge destination.
"The focus was to promote Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit - 2015 and to attract businesses and investment in Gujarat. The delegation also focused on encouraging partnership for better education and skill development and create opportunities for the people of Gujarat," a press statement said.
The visit from September 1 started with a meet in Montreal organised by Quebec India Business Council, Export Quebec and High Commission of India in Canada and was attended by about 100 CEOs and directors, senior officials, businessmen and professionals around the province.
"The delegation aimed at promoting Gujarat and India as attractive business and knowledge destination and succeeded in creating a buzz among business and industry leaders of Canada." The enthusiasm among people in Canada towards India in general and Gujarat in particular showed that Canadian industry is looking towards Gujarat as a favoured destination for doing business and making investment," the statement said.
The Canadian companies and Quebec authorities were invited to Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit scheduled to take place in Gandhinagar from January 11-13, 2015. The delegation also met officials of Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM) and discussed possibilities of collaboration between UQAM and educational institutions of Gujarat.
The delegation had a series of meetings in Toronto as well as with top Canadian companies and investors. During a meeting with Canada's largest investment bank, Canaccord Genuity, the latter assured bringing along a delegation of Canadian companies that can partner with firms based in Gujarat in the field of agriculture, agro-processing, fertilisers, skill development and others," the statement said.
The delegation also attended a host of other business meets including one organised by Indo-Canadian Chamber of Commerce (ICCC). "The organisers extended support and interest in bringing a delegation of prominent Canadian companies to the Summit as they believe that it is truly a Global Platform for investment," the statement said.
