KOCHI: The Cochin Film Society will screen two movies in August and September at the YMCA Hall. Malayali director Sreekrishnan’s maiden Tamil movie ‘Marupathai’ will be screened at 6 pm on August 26. The 75-minute movie unfolds the story of three young men who are on a common mission. The story deals with the conflict between the members of a tribal community who were engaged in a fight for survival.Girish Kasaravalli’s Kannada movie ‘Gulabi Talkies’ will be screened at 6 pm on September 22. The film was screened at the Osian’s Cinefan Festival of Asian and Arab Cinema, where it won the best film and best actress awards in the Indian competition section. Based on the short story by the same name by Kannada writer Vaidehi, the film is set in the late 1990s among the fishing communities around Kundapura in Karnataka.
