Every year on October 8, Indian Air Force Day is celebrated to honour the Indian Air Force (IAF) and its pilots, who devote their lives to safeguarding the nation. This year, the Indian Air Force celebrates its 92nd anniversary with the theme, ‘Bhartiya Vayu Sena – Saksham, Sashakt, Atmanirbhar’ (Potent, Powerful, and Self-Reliant), reflecting the force’s dedication to protecting India’s airspace.
The Indian Air Force was officially established on October 8, 1932. Its inaugural flight took place on April 1, 1933, featuring six officers trained by the Royal Air Force (RAF) and 19 airmen. The initial aircraft fleet comprised four Westland Wapiti IIA biplanes stationed at Drigh Road, which formed the foundation of ‘A’ Flight in No. 1 (Army Cooperation) Squadron.
