Any act which prompts the migrant labourers to leave the state is against the public interest and strict action will be taken if any such incidents are reported, Home Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan said here on Monday.
The Home Minister said that steps should be taken to prevent recurrence of incidents such as the one in Malappuram, in which a group of people threatened the migrant labourers at their camps.
”The police are keenly watching whether any provocative SMSs or e-mails are being spread. The police personnel visited some of the camps of the labourers and asked them to give complaint if anything turns against them,’’ the Home Minister told reporters.
‘’There is no major flow of migrant labourers from the state to their home states against the backdrop of recent violence in Assam. The number of migrant labourers going back to their home state is normal. But, it is learned that family members of some of the labourers are pleading them to return,’’ the Minister said. He also said that the government was committed to give protection to the employees who turn up for work on the day of general strike. At the state-level, a monitoring unit comprising Chief Secretary, Principal Secretary (Home and Vigilance), DGP and ADGP (Intelligence) would monitor the arrangements being made to give protection to the employees who do not want to cooperate with the strike. ‘’At the district-level, magistrate and collector will supervise the arrangements,’’ the Home Minister said.
