TIRUNELVELI: Mohammed Meraj Khan (25) of UP, who has been working under a false name at Koodankulam Nuclear Power Project (KKNPP) as a contract worker for a private company, was arrested on Tuesday. Intelligence agencies, including the Intelligence Bureau (IB) and Q-branch, are investigating whether he had any links with terrorist groups in UP. Police sources said Khan has been working for over a year as a welder for Kaefer Punj Lloyd Ltd, a company doing contract work at the KKNPP. He was working under a bogus name and false nativity. The Central Industrial Security Force arrested him on suspicion and handed him over to Koodankulam police. On investigation, it was found that his name was Mohammed Meraj Khan and he had joined the company after giving his name as Subodh Bashwan of Barajj, Lalganj (PO), Vishali district, Bihar, which were found to be false. The police have got a facsimile copy of Khan’s passport. Intelligence sources said his address has been found to be correct. His neighbours were also questioned about him. An inquiry was underway on whether he had links to SIMI or other terrorist groups. Officials of the contract company made available a police verification in the name of Subodh Bashwan of Vishali district. As the firm had urgently required a worker, Khan’s photo was pasted on the identity card of Subodh Bashwan and he was enrolled. The KKNPP also did not verify his identity. An intelligence officer said: “So far, we have not found anything to link Meraj Khan with any extremist group.” Tirunelveli district SP Vijayendra S Bidari told Express that Meraj Khan was arrested by Koodankulam police under Sections of 419, 468, 471 of the IPC.A police officer said one more person will be arrested in this connection.
