India, Pak boards to blame for burnout
Mike Brearley blamed the cricket boards of India and Pakistan for too much international cricket, forcing burnout.

Karachi: Former England captain Mike Brearley has fuelled the burnout debate by suggesting that the cricket boards of India and Pakistan were to be blamed for too much cricket being played at the international level.

"I do believe that there is too much cricket being played these days. Personally, I think that the cricket boards of India and Pakistan are to be blamed for it," Brearly said.

"They arrange too many benefit and fund-raising matches here and there in the world and it is their players who are exposed most," he was quoted as saying in The News.

Brearly said players might complain about non-stop cricket and a spate of injuries affecting most of them but they also like to make money whenever there is a gap in the calendar.

"If you will provide the players with more gaps in the international calendar then they would commit themselves for other cricket activities where they can make money," he said.

Brearley also said the England cricketers played lesser domestic cricket these days than in the past.

"These England cricketers play more Test cricket now but they rarely appear in county games. Previously, it was the other way round," he said.
