New Delhi: The police on Monday will continue its questioning of witnesses in the IPL molestation case involving Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) player Luke Pomersbach. The police is set to record the statement of Miraj, the victim's fiance's friend, who was present in the room when the assault took place.
The police questioned the victim's fiance and another of his friends, Moiz, on Monday. The former reportedly corroborated the victim's version of events, that Luke entered their room and punched him three to four times.
Earlier, the police had claimed that Luke had confessed to his crime in the case. However, the player's lawyers refuted the claims saying no admission had been made by their client.
Counsel Neeraj Chaudhry said Luke did not make any confession to the police or anyone else that he had molested the woman in a five-star hotel.
"It was all a rumour. Luke did not make any such confession. His case is pending in court. So he will only tell court if he needs to say anything," said Chaudhry.
Additional Commissioner of Police KC Dwivedi too denied the reports saying that Pomersbach did not confess to the police that he had inadvertently touched or molested the victim under the influence of alcohol. Dwivedi said another IPL cricketer KP Appanna, whose name has also cropped up in the case as he was caught in CCTV footage while accompanying Pomersbach in the corridor of the hotel where the incident took place on Thursday, told the police that his presence at the time of the incident was a coincidence.
"He was not accompanying Pomersbach," said Dwivedi on the basis of Appanna's statement to police. "Appanna's name came to light after he was seen in CCTV footage recovered from the hotel, where the American woman was molested during a party," said the officer. Police questioned Appanna, a legspinner who plays for Karnataka in Ranji Trophy, during the day on Monday.
