New Delhi: Michelle Obama's appearance at the end of the 85th Academy Awards may have come as a pleasant surprise to lot of people, but a news agency in Iran didn't seem to like the US first lady's outfit for the occasion and decided to cover her up.
The first lady appeared via a video link at the awards ceremony wearing a glittering sleeveless dress and announced 'Argo' as the winner of the Best Picture award. But Michelle's image was edited and her dress was given sleeves by Fars, an Iranian news agency which also acts as semi-official mouthpiece for the regime.
The image was altered keeping in mind the strict diktat that the Iranian media has to adhere to. In the past, Iran has digitally covered images of women whose outfit they deemed as 'revealing'. In 2011, a photograph of Baroness Ashton, the EU's foreign policy chief, was altered to raise the hemline of a low-cut top.
