BHUBANESWAR: Internationally-acclaimed cinematographer and filmmaker A K Bir will receive the coveted Jayadev Puraskar, the State’s highest honour for cinema, for 2010. Mumbai-based Bir, a resident of Odisha, has made some outstanding movies in Odia and Hindi.Tourism and Culture Minister Prafulla Samal announced this at a media conference on the State Film Awards for 2010 here on Sunday.'Swayamsiddha’, a film that revolves around Maoist ideology, swept eight of the 20 awards - best film, best director (Sudhansu Mohan Sahu), best story (Namita Mallick), best cinematography (Sanjib Kumar Mohapatra), best lyricist (Swarup Nayak), best art direction (Budha Moharana), best sound recording (Ajay) and special jury award (Siddhant Mohapatra).Babushan and Riya De were adjudged best actor and best actress respectively while best supporting actor and best supporting actress awards went to Mihir Das and Usasi Mishra respectively. Jiban Panda and Master Ankit were declared best comedian and best child actor respectively.While Avijit Mazumdar is best music director, best actor awardee Babushan and Ira Mohanty are adjudged the best male and female playback singers respectively. No award has been announced in the categories of best screenplay and best children’s or educational films.A seven-member jury comprising veteran actor Sarat Pujari, filmmakers Sabyasachi Mohapatra and Gadadhar Puty, cinematographer and filmmaker Raju Mishra, writer Prativa Ray and journalists Pradosh Patnaik and Parikhit Jena finalised the awardees.The Minister informed that the State Government has enhanced the number of awards from 22 to 27 and award money has been hiked from ` 1.27 lakh to ` 5 lakh.The awards will be presented at a special ceremony at Utkal Mandap here on December 21, announced the Minister.Commissioner of Culture Ashok Kumar Tripathy, Odisha Sangeet Natak Akademi president and jury chairman Sarat Pujari and the members of the jury were present.
