CHENNAI: “Love and affection for each other alone should be the axis for married life,” Chief Minister and AIADMK general secretary J Jayalalithaa said on Wednesday as she presided over the wedding of seven couples from families of senior AIADMK functionaries at Vanagaram.The CM said the role of a wife was paramount in maintaining the household and looking after the children, while the part played by the husband was also equally important in earning income for running the family.“In the context of the present situation and lifestyle, no one can segregate these roles. As such, the husband and wife should try to achieve anything only through affection and not by dominating the other partner,” she said.Driving home her point by quoting humorous anecdotes in Tamil that evoked peals of laughter from the audience, she quoted poet Bharathidasan’s verse, “a good family is verily a university”.Wishing the couples, she said, “You are turning a new leaf in your life with a bang of victory...yes, our party has won the by-election to Sankarankoil by a thumping margin...today is not just an auspicious day, but also a day of success.”
