PUDUCHERRY: Police, on Wednesday night, arrested a Jharkhand resident Mohammed Ismail Sheik (30) and seized counterfeit currencies with a face value of `1,90,500 from him, said. Senior superintendent of police (Law and order) V J Chandran on Thursday. He added that police were on the search for two other persons, who reached Puducherry along with Ismail on January 17. The SSP said Mohammad Ismail Sheik (30) belonged to Mansheika village, Narayanpur, Sahaibganj district and added that his village came within the Rajmahal police station limits.Chandran said Ismail had bought fruit from a vendor at Gorimedu on Wednesday night and gave a `1000 note to him. The vendor became suspicious after noticing a bunch of notes and immediately informed the nearby D Nagar police station. Police reached the spot, took Ismail to police station and questioned him. During the investigation they examined the notes seized from him,19 thousand rupee notes in total, and found them to be fake. The police then carried out a search at the guest house where he was staying, and recovered the rest of the fake currency. The police, during the raid at the guest house, also seized `3000 of genuine currency.Chandran said Ismail had told the police team that he and five others, hailing from the same Jharkhand district, received the counterfeit currencies with face value of `2.5 lakh (but only Rs 1.90 lakh recovered from Ismail) from a place in Malda district in West Bengal. They travelled to Chennai by train but only three of them reached Puducherry.According to sources, Ismail had named his companions as Jamedhar Sheik, Sabik, Abdul Raheem, Mittu Sheik and MisoramProbe agencies, TN police informedThe SSP said the national investigation agencies and Tamil Nadu police have been informed about the arrest of the Jharkhand person.It may be recalled that the Chennai police have arrested three Jharkhand persons with fake currencies a couple of days ago.Asked about the terrorist organisations and subversive elements link, Chandran said nothing more could be revealed at this juncture as further investigations were underway.Public warnedAsked about the possibility of fake currency in circulation, he said the public should be alert as the person may have circulated a few notes since reaching here.
