Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Cabinet has appealed to the people not to take law in their hands. The state Cabinet, which met on Monday to take stock of the situation in the Kashmir Valley, also condemned the alleged act of desecration of holy Quran in the US.
After the meeting, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah appealed for peace and calm in the state.
The fresh round of violence started on Saturday after protesters burnt government buildings in Srinagar. The government had given permission to Hurriyat leader Mirwaiz Omar Farooq to hold a protest march on Eid day on Saturday.
Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir Police has blamed separatist leader Imtiyaz Haider of instigating violence. Haider is a member of the Hurriyat faction led by Syed Ali Shah Geelani.
"Our idea is to present audio and video evidence of how people are being instigated," said J&K DGP Kuldeep Khoda at a press conference on Monday.
Police showed audio and video clips allegedly linking Hurriyat leaders to violence in the Valley.
"There has been wide-scale damage to government and private property during various incidents of violence. Out of 52 arrested in Budgam, most belong to Hurriyat and Muslim League," Khoda added.
The DGP also said that the SP of Bandipore, who was injured in violence, was undergoing treatment in a Srinagar hospital.
Fourteen people including one policeman were killed on Monday in violent clashes between the protestors and security personnel.
With 14 deaths, the toll in the over three month long unrest in the Valley has risen to 87.
