Johnny Depp picks Russian Spy's tale
Depp will star in a film as Russian spy Litvinenko whose mysterious poisoning death sparked off an international row.

New Delhi: Hollywood’s hottest heartthrob Johnny Depp is planning to produce and star in a film based on real-life story of Russian spy who met a poisoning death in London few months back.

Depp who loves to take up eccentric roles (who can forget the maverick ‘Jack Sparrow’ of Pirate of the Caribbean) has collaborated with Warner Bros to film the mysterious death of former KGB agent Alexander Litvinenko on screen.

According to trade magazine Variety the film titled Sasha's Story: The Life and Death of a Russian Spy will be penned by New York Times London bureau chief Alan Cowell, who has been covering the story since it first broke in November.

In London, the investigation continues into the death of Litvinenko, who was poisoned in late November by polonium-210. Just before his death, he blamed Russian President Vladimir Putin's regime for the murder. Story has become one of the most mysterious and perplexing crimes of the post-Cold War era, triggering an international investigation led by the UK's top counter-terrorism officials.

Initially, authorities thought Litvinenko was poisoned at a sushi restaurant. Now they believe he may have been poisoned at another location as well.

What's your reaction?
