The Kerala government will chalk out plans for preparing projects and schemes under the tsunami rehabilitation package.

New Delhi: The Kerala government will call a meeting of MLAs from coastal region in the state to chalk out plans for preparing projects and schemes under the Rs 1,441.75 crore-tsunami rehabilitation package.

Kerala Revenue Minister K P Rajendran disclosed the plan in the state assembly on Wednesday.

He said that the amount sanctioned by the Centre for tsunami rehabilitation package would be properly utilised.

Replying to a submission, Rajendran said during 2006-07, an amount of Rs 18 crore was utilised out of the sanctioned fund of Rs 23.40 crore.

The LDF government was committed to utilise the tsunami fund in the coastal region itself, he said and alleged that the previous UDF government had utilised it in non-coastal regions also.

The government had already started implementing the Centre's Child Assistance Programme under the package, he said.

A meeting of MLA's of coastal regions would be called to chalk out plans for preparing projects and schemes under the package and also to solve any complaints in implementing the schemes, he added.

T Prathapan of the Congress party said the government had no schemes and projects to properly utilise the funds sanctioned by the Centre.

There was every possibility that the funds would remain unutilised leading to lapse of funds, he alleged.
