THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The phase II works of World Bank-aided Kerala State Transport Project (KSTP) would begin in April. This was announced by Public Works Minister V K Ebrahim Kunju after discussion with the World Bank officials here on Wednesday.Taliparamba-Iritty road would be the first to be upgraded under the project. Tender proceedings would be completed by the end of this month. The World Bank Mission’s second team would reach the state on Thursday. The eleven-member Identification Mission would review the project in a week’s time.A World Bank loan of `1,356 crore has been sought for the upgradation of the 136 km road. “The World Bank is expected to grand more fund for the project,” PWD sources said.The World Bank Mission would inspect social and environmental impact, timely completion of works, possibility of long term loans, transparent tender proceedings etc in its week-long visit. The Mission is headed by Simon Ellis.Senior Transport Engineer Arnab Bandyopadhyay, procurement specialist Kalesh Kumar, PPP specialist Srikumar Tadimalla, Global Road Safety Facility Programme co-ordinator Said Dahdah, senior finance management specialist Atul Balchandra Despande, Environment specialist Ernesto Sanchez-Triana, social development specialist Sangeethakumari, transport development specialist Dominic Pasquale Patella, governance consultant Krishnan Sreenivasan and senior programme assistant N S Sreenivas are the members of the World Bank mission.
