New Delhi: Following reports that Samsung will introduce a smartphone with a curved display in October, a new report has emerged claiming that LG is also working on a smartphone with a curved display. The smartphone is speculated to come with a 6-inch display.
The curved smartphone from LG is likely to come with the name "G Flex", reports CNET citing a person familiar with the company's launch plans. It further reports that the phone may be unveiled in November, but the launch date could shift.
A curved display does not mean that that users will be able to bend the smartphone, it instead means that the display will be set at a curved - but stationary - position. Curved displays are an early stage in screen evolution which is shifting to bendable or foldable designs, eventually allowing mobile and wearable gadgets to take on new forms that could radically change the high-end smartphone market.
Samsung Electronics said it will launch a smartphone with a curved display in October, as the world's top handset maker seeks to set the pace of hardware innovation and maintain its supremacy in a fiercely competitive business.
Curved display is already commercially available in large-screen televisions. Samsung and its home rival LG Electronics Inc had started selling curved OLED TV sets this year priced at about $9,000.
