VELLORE: A man died after he unknowingly drank alcohol mixed with acid, at Arakkonam. He mixed the two substances by mistake during a power cut.Vajiravelu (53) of Lakshmi Nagar in Arakkonam worked in a telephone office. He was making arrangements to drink during a power cut on Friday night when he mistook acid used to wash clothes for water, mixed it with alcohol and drank the substance. After sometime, he experienced severe stomach ache and fainted. He was taken to the Arakkonam GH, where he died. Arakkonam town police have filed a case in this connection.Illicit Liquor SeizedOne person was held on Sunday for selling illicit liquor in Vellore. About 60 litres of liquor was seized from him.During a raid at Samandhipuram, the police found liquor in the possession of 28-year-old Markabandhu. He was arrested and remanded.2 Held for Selling Pirated CDsTwo persons were held for selling pirated CDs near Gudiyatham on Saturday. Gudiyatham town police were involved in a raid, when they found Parameswaran (32) selling pirated CDs at his shop located on Katpadi road. Another person called Sekar (28) was also found selling CDs of new films at his shop on Congress House Road. Both the individuals were arrested and 10 CDs were seized from them.
