Dhar, MP: Setting yet another example against those involved in crimes against women, a Madhya Pradesh court on Thursday handed capital punishment to a man for the rape and murder of a four-year-old girl in the state's Dhar district.
The verdict was pronounced by Judge Akbar Shiekh of the district and sessions court in Dhar.
The incident had happened in December 2017 when the accused, a local by the name of Karan, first raped the minor girl and later stoned her to death in Jagannathpura, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Manawar police station.
Taking swift action, the police quickly arrested the accused and also managed to present the charge sheet within a mere twenty days of the incident.
The arrest and conviction were based on analysis of evidence from DNA and Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) tests, which helped nail the culprit.
The judge held the accused guilty, based on statements from 20 witnesses who deposed before the court and also on the evidence collected by the police. He was sentenced to rigorous life imprisonment for the rape of the minor and death for the murder of the same.
