THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Industries Minister P K Kunhalikutty said that developing a brand value for Hantex products would provide the necessary impetus for weavers in the handloom sector. Inaugurating the year-long golden jubilee celebrations of Kerala State Handloom Weavers Co-operative Society Limited ( Hantex ) here, the minister said that the government will give all support to the weavers in the background of financial difficulties facing Hantex. The Minister unveiled the new logo of Hantex at the occasion. Hantex which was formed by the merger of three co-operative societies in 1961 was instrumental in providing jobs to more than 50000 people associated with handloom industry. Better marketing of the local handloom patterns can improve the functioning of cooperative societies, Kunhalikutty said. Transport Minister V S Sivakumar who presided over the function said that the government was examining ways to bail out Hantex which was facing financial crisis. Deputy Speaker N Sakthan who inaugurated the golden jubilee prize scheme, said that the government should reintroduce rebate and discount provisions for Hantex products . Hantex Managing director S Abdul Haleem said that Hantex would distribute sarees for the anganvadi workers to be worn as uniform. In connection with the golden jubilee celebrations, Hantex planned to construct a shopping complex in the land behind the Secretariat on BOT basis. A pavilion would be set up at this shopping centre to exhibit handloom products manufactured by artists from various states, he said. Mayor K Chandrika , V Sivankutty MLA, C Mammooty MLA, Additional Chief Secretary for Industries T Balakrishan IAS and Handlooms and Textiles Director Sam C Itticheriya also spoke on the occasion.
