Coming down heavily on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over the flyover collapse in Kolkata, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday targeted her government by accusing it of not taking responsibility for the tragedy. Pointing out that Mamata shifted the blame on to the previous Left Front government for allowing the construction, Modi questioned if she would have credited them if the flyover would have been completed and inaugurated.
"I want to ask 'didi' that if the flyover was ready and she would have gone to cut the ribbon, would she talk of Left's role in the flyover construction. This bridge collapse in not an act of god but an act of fraud," Modi said while addressing a poll rally in Madarihat in West Bengal.
He added that the bridge "collapsed during election time to give a message to the people of Bengal to get rid of both TMC and Left for the prosperity of the state".
Questioning inaction by the state government over the irregularities in the Saradha chit fund scam, the Prime Minister claimed that TMC leadership has been defending the accused. "The money of the poor has gone in Saradha chit fund scam. Should not the accused be sent to jail and money returned?" Modi asked.
Modi claimed the West Bengal CM has been boycotting meetings where the Centre and state governments meet, share their problems and collaborate. "If you had problems with the Central government, you should have told us but you just did not turn up for meetings. You thought Modi has called the meeting, so I would not go even if that means loss for the state," Modi mocked at Mamata.
Urging people to vote for the Bharatiya Janata Party, Modi assured that unlike Left and TMC, his party would work for the upliftment of the poor.
