You can now pay your property tax at the neighbourhood branch of the HDFC Bank or the IDBI Bank in the city. The Chennai Corporation added them to its current list of six banks authorised to collect property tax, Mayor Saidai Duraisamy announced here on Monday.
The six banks are Indian Overseas Bank, City Union Bank, Karur Vysya Bank, Canara Bank, ICICI Bank and Axis Bank. With the HDFC Bank, which has 78 branches within Corporation limits, and the IDBI Bank with 20 branches, added to the list, paying property tax should be much more easier.
The property owner need not have an account in any of these banks for paying the tax. The initiative is part of Vision 2023 to make life hassle-free, the Mayor said, adding that the Corporation will take steps to create awareness on the bank payment facility.
