This trio always struck gold when they work together, the last example being the mega-success of 'Mayamohini'. Dileep-Udayakrishna-Siby K Thomas team, that has created several hit films, is back once again for 'Mr Marumakan', directed by Sandhya Mohan.
Scriptwriter Udaykrishna, who has penned the earlier movies of Sandhya Mohan along with Sibi K Thomas says, "With all the hit formulas of a Dileep movie, 'Mr Marumakan' is a neat family drama. The film narrates the constant tiffs between Ashokraj (Dileep) and his mother-in-law Raja Mallika (Khushboo), with a humorous undertone. It brings forth to the big screen the hullabaloo within the families, usually the main theme of the mini screen soap operas."
'Mr Marumakan' begins with the financial hassles of the average middle-class family of Ashokraj. Ashokraj, a family man, struggles hard to run the drama troupe named 'Bharatha Kala Kendram' which was earlier run by his father Rajagopalan Thampy (Nedumudi Venu). Though the troupe was much in demand in the past, its glory has diminished and the family is debt-ridden.
Another member of the family is Baburaj (Biju Menon), Ashok's brother who is an unsuccessful businessman. In the midst of their life comes Balasubramanyam (Bhagyaraj), a bank officer. With certain twists and turns, Dileep marries Balasubramanyam’s daughter Raja Lakshmi (Sanusha). What awaits Ashok in the wife's house is a conniving mother-in-law, Raja Mallika played by Khushboo, along with her mother Raja Kokila (Sheela), the owner of Raja's group of companies. And the way the hero tackles the proud threesome forms the bottomline of the film.
Uday says, "It is definitely a hero-oriented film. We took care while selecting the actors for casting brings freshness to the otherwise formulaic themes. Dileep was there in the mind from the beginning when we thought about the story. I have grown up watching the films of Bhagyaraj. We were looking for a suitable role for him for long. And Khusboo was a natural choice for the haughty mother-in-law."
The script writer believes that family dramas are more successful in the long run. "They provide us steady collection, unlike action movies, the reason why we thought about a family movie," he says.
'Mr Marumakan' is the first Malayalam film of Sanusha as the heroine. Other actors include Saikumar, Suraj Venjaramood, Hijaz and others. Cinematographer is P Sukumar and music is composed by Suresh Peters and Rajamani. The film is being produced by Maha Subair and Nelson Eapen under the banner of Varnachitra Big Screen.
