Conmen promising marriage to gullible women and duping them of valuables is a common trick. But now, the tables have turned.
Chennai police are on the hunt for Shahanaz, a resident of Thiruvananthapuram, who allegedly duped several men of cash after ‘marrying’ them. The con-job came to light after Manikandan of Mugalivakkam, cheated of several lakhs of rupees, knocked the doors of the City Police Commissioner on Wednesday.
Manikandan said he met Shahanaz at a car showroom in Kattupakkam. They fell in love and got married on May 21, 2011. Shahnaz, however, left Manikandan’s house and checked into a working women’s hostel stating that she needed to prepare for the civil services and continue her practice at the Madras High Court. She went missing from there on November 8, 2011. Manikandan said he received calls from Shahanaz’s ‘husbands’ who poured out their sob tales. He mentioned seven such men to the Commissioner. Police recalled a complaint lodged by Suresh of Pulianthope pending against Shahanaz.
They summoned Prasanna, who had recently married Shahanaz, for interrogation.
