Mumbai city and suburbs are likely to see moderate rain for the next 24 hours, with chances of heavy to very heavy rain in the evening, according to Mumbai’s Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC)

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued orange alert for Central Maharashtra, predicting heavy to very heavy rain over the next five days, with red alert from July 18-20. Mumbai city and suburbs are likely to see moderate rain for the next 24 hours, with chances of heavy to very heavy rain in the evening, according to Mumbai’s Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC).

Extremely heavy rain is likely over Konkan and Goa on July 16, July 18, 19; central Maharashtra (red alert) during July 18-20; Gujarat state, South Interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu on July 16; Coastal Karnataka on July 16 and 17, according to the IMD report.

A low-pressure area lies over south Chhattisgarh and adjoining Vidarbha and associated cyclonic circulation extends upto middle tropospheric levels tilting southwestwards with height. The Monsoon trough is active and south of its normal position. It is likely to be south of its normal position during next 4-5 days. A shear zone runs in lower and middle tropospheric levels roughly along 19°N tilting southwards with height. The off-shore trough runs along south Gujarat-north Kerala coasts at mean sea level. A fresh low-pressure area is likely to form over Westcentral & adjoining Northwest Bay of Bengal around July 19.

WEST, CENTRAL AND SOUTH PENINSULAR INDIA FORECAST

Fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm and lightning is very likely over Konkan and Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, Kerala and Mahe, Lakshadweep, Karnataka, Gujarat state, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, Telangana; isolated to scattered light to moderate rainfall over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal, Rayalaseema during the next five days.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely at isolated/some places over Konkan and Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Gujarat State, Karnataka and Kerala and Mahe during the next five days. Isolated extremely heavy rainfall very likely over Konkan & Goa on July 16, 18 and 19; central Maharashtra during July 18-20; Gujarat state, South Interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu on July 16; Coastal Karnataka on July 16, 17.

Isolated heavy rainfall is very likely over Telangana, Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh during July 16-20; Tamil Nadu during July 16-18 and North Interior Karnataka on July 16, 19 and 20.

EAST & NORTHEAST INDIA FORECAST

Fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm, lightning is very likely over Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, Northeast India and Odisha; scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall over Gangetic West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand during the next five days.

Heavy rainfall very likely at isolated places over Odisha, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura during July 16-20; Arunachal Pradesh, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim on July 16 and 20; Assam and Meghalaya on July 16, 19 and 20; Andaman and Nicobar Islands on July 16 and Gangetic West Bengal on July 19, 20.

Isolated very heavy rainfall is also likely over Odisha on July 19, 20; Assam, Meghalaya and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura on July 20.

NORTHWEST INDIA FORECAST

Scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm and lightning very likely over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and East Rajasthan; isolated to scattered rainfall likely over Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad, Punjab, HaryanaChandigarh-Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and West Rajasthan during the next five days.

Isolated heavy rainfall very likely over Uttarakhand, East Rajasthan during July 16-20; West Rajasthan on July 17, 18 and Himachal Pradesh during July 18-20; Punjab, Haryana on July 17, 18 and Uttar Pradesh on July 20. Isolated very heavy rainfall is also likely over Uttarakhand and East Rajasthan on July 17 and 18.
