Panaji: Former Goa Tourism Minister Fransisco Pacheco, the prime accused in a case relating to the death of a woman, on Monday moved the Bombay High Court bench here seeking anticipatory bail.
Sources close to Pacheco said the petition was moved this afternoon by his lawyer.
Pacheco is on the run after he was questioned by the crime branch in connection with the death of his "close" friend Nadia Torrado, who died allegedly after consuming rat poison at a private hospital in Chennai on May 30.
The former minister's anticipatory bail plea was rejected by a sessions court in Margao last week.
In the petition filed before High Court on Monday, Pacheco termed the charges against him as politically motivated.
The former minister said few people have conspired against him as he had demanded inquiry into the involvement of a senior politician's son in drug trade.
Pacheco said Nadia was his close friend and he had helped her family when she was taken to hospital.
Meanwhile, Lyndon Monteiro, the officer on special duty of Pacheco, has withdrawn the anticipatory bail application.
