BANGALORE: Besides, treating several Iraqi patients suffering from heart ailments, Narayana Hrudalaya, the city based cardiac hospital, is planning to set up a telemedicine centre in Iraq.
The hospital is engaged in providing free medical services to the needy Iraqi nationals who are deprived of quality care in their country. It all started after the visit of Aga Sultan, former syndicate member, Bangalore University, to Iraq who requested the hospital to provide treatment to the patients. Since then, a large number of Iraqi patients have been treated successfully at Narayana Hrudayalaya Health City under a few economical packages. With increasing number of children suffering from heart problems, Dr Devi Prasad Shetty, Director of the hospital, offered to operate 10 to 15 children hailing from the economically weaker section, under the age of ten years. Treatment was provided free of cost. The management of Karbala, Iraq, in coordination with Aga Sultan has identified the children and the operations are underway now.

The first free heart operation was performed on 8-year-old Ameer Luaia, hailing from Karbala, Iraq, in the month of May. She has gone back to her country and is doing fine. The second surgery was performed on Marwah Riyadh who is 5-year-old, hailing from Babil (Babylon), Iraq, in June.
