New Delhi: In a brutal attack, six persons chopped off the hands of BJP worker Shashikant Shitole in Sangvi village 15 KM from Pune city.
Shitole, who was also stabbed 22 times, is in Sancheti Hospital, Pune, where doctors are trying to reattach the severed hands to his body. He is BJP's candidate for the upcoming Zilla Parishad elections in the area.
Police claim that local NCP MLA, Lakshaman Jagtap of Haveli constituency is behind the attack.
Jagtap's nephew, Dinesh Jagtap has surrendered before the Chaturshrangi Police, but other attackers are still at large.
Police said the assailants attacked Shitole while he was taking his daughter to school on his motorcycle. The reason behind the attack was said to be a political rivalry.
