New Delhi: The National Commission for Women has slammed the Madhya Pradesh government for doing virginity tests on women before a mass marriage ceremony in June 2009. CNN-IBN has accessed exclusive details of the National Commission for Women's inquiry report on the virginity test.
The report says the virginity or pre-abdomen test conducted on widows, divorcees and even unmarried girls, who came for the mass marriage function, is humiliating and insulting an women's dignity. It's a violation of her right to privacy, the report adds.
The report says the authorities over stepped their limits by doing these virginity tests. The doctors examined the stomach of the women and determined the period cycle to determine whether she was pregnant or not. The NCW says the women were not told of these tests and this amounted to invasion of a woman's privacy.
The report also highlights a corruption angle and says that the beneficiaries of the Mukhyamantri Kanyadaan Yojna for the year 2009-2010 have not received any cash till date.
