Etawah: Betrayal by some of his close associates coupled with electronic surveillance proved fatal for dacoit Nirbhay Gujjar, who was killed in an encounter with Special Task Force of Uttar Pradesh police on monday night.
STF sources said that some very close associates of the dacoit had been providing vital information about his movements for the last several weeks.
SSP of STF Akhil Kumar however, refused to reveal the names of their informers owing to their safety.
Kumar announced that the reward of Rs 2.5 Lakh on the dacoit's head will be distributed among the informers with the police not claiming a single penny from it.
Narrating the sequence of events, which finally led to the end game, STF sources said Nirbhay had been putting up at Chitapur village in Auriya district for the last three days.
The STF team which had been camping in the area for some days, rushed to the jungles between Chitapur and Niyamatpur villages on getting information about Nirbhai's movements.
Late on Monday evening, the STF team comprising Kumar, a Suprintendent of Police and four others, laid seige at the addi or place where the dacoit was holed up alongwith six of his associates, catching them unawares.
