Both are natives of in Chitta (K) village in Basavakalyan taluk.After she gave birth to the boy on October 1, 2009, Shravan allegedly refused to marry Kalavati doubting her character.Members of a women’s forum failed to convince Shravan to marry Kalavati.Kalavati then lodged a complaint against Shravan at Manthal police station on March 23, 2011.Police, registering a case against Shravan, recently sent the blood samples of Kalavati, Shravan and the boy to Bangalore for a DNA test. The report is awaited.Kalavati’s parents alleged that Shravan’s family, who are well-off, were looking for a bride for their son.When contacted, Taluk Child Development Project officer of Basavakalyan, Jagannat Gada, told Express that the anganwadi had not denied the boy admission.He said that Kalavati herself had told the anganwadi staff that she would admit her son to an anganwadi at a village in Aland taluk.When contacted by Express, Kalavathi denied this and insisted that the Chitta (K) anganwadi had denied admission to her son and also said she did not seek admission to the Aland school.Gada said, “I will instruct Chitta (K) anganwadi staff to admit the boy if his mother (Kalavati) wants to admit her son there.”He clarified that admission could not be denied to any child on the ground that the father’s name is not mentioned in the application.Action would be initiated if the staff of the anganwadi are found to be guilty, Gada added.first published:August 15, 2012, 07:49 ISTlast updated:August 15, 2012, 07:49 IST
