Washington: Indian-American Vivek Kundra, who last week was appointed Federal Chief Technology Officer by US President Barack Obama, has gone on leave after the FBI searched his previous government office.
Kundra, 34, was the Chief Technology Officer of Washington DC till last week, when Obama picked him as his information technology chief. The Washington Post, which first reported the FBI raid, said Kundra was not suspected of any wrongdoing.
The FBI has arrested two persons, including Indian-American Sushil Bansal, for alleged corruption, the newspaper said. Bansal is the president and CEO of Advances Integrated Technologies Corp, a contractor at the technology office of the Washington DC government.
Yusuf Acar, an information security officer, was the other person arrested.
The newspaper, quoting sources, said Acar solicited and accepted bribes from Bansal and awarded contracts to his company.
"Beginning in 2004, the company received more contracts and more work, totalling more than $6.6 million as of January 2008," the newspaper said.
White House spokesperson Robert Gibbs refused to comment about the FBI raid. "I think as you know this is an ongoing investigation and questions about the investigation I would point you to the Department of Justice, but that obviously it's a serious
matter," said Gibbs on Thursday.
