New Delhi: National Conference president Omar Abdullah has threatened to resign as Member of Parliament if the Prime Minister doesn't intervene and initiate the peace process in Jammu and Kashmir at the earliest.

He has also demanded an end to what he calls ''the use of force'' on protestors.

Omar Abdullah also demanded that the Muzaffarabad route be reopened.

His comments came even as the Srinagar coordination committee was meeting to decide its next step.

The committee, an umbrella organisation of both factions of the Hurriyat conference, the bar council, womens' and fruit growers association, is planning yet another protest march on Monday to the office of the United Nations in Srinagar to protest against the human rights violations in the state.

“What we need is not one-off all-party meeting wherein a delegation comes and visits Jammu and then Kashmir, then leaves and forgets. You need a sustained dialogue at as high a level as possible wherein some amount of cooling of tempers is allowed to happen. I believe there are reasonable demands from both sides that can be met without inflaming passions. There is a strong feeling of anger at the way protestors have been fired upon in the garb control,” he said.

Meanwhile, the leaders of Shri Amarnath Sangharsh Samiti met several political parties in Delhi on Sunday.

Its convenor Leela Karan Sharma along with four other members will address a press conference later on Sunday, to fight what they call a disinformation war being waged against the Jammu agitation.
