CHENNAI: A GO dated June 22 this year, which constituted a one-man commission to probe the alleged irregularities in the construction of new Secretariat complex in the Omandurar Government Estate, was upheld by the Madras High Court on Thursday.The materials, such as excess expenditure, inordinate delay and deficiency in standards of construction, as stated in the report of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India, would suffice for the State to exercise its power under Sec. 3 of the Commissions of Inquiry Act for constituting the commission and as such, the GO was not bad, a division bench comprising Justice D Murugesan and Justice K K Sasidharan said.The bench was dismissing a writ petition from former DMK minister Thangam Thennarasu seeking to quash the GO.
