KOCHI: The District Tourism Promotion Council will launch a project to give a facelift to the Paravoor court complex. The move is part of the initiative to preserve the building considering its historical significance. The tender for the project has been taken by KITCO and the work is expected to start within a month. The North Paravoor District Court, a heritage building constructed more than 100 years ago, is in a dilapidated state. The new project aims at preserving the place and thereby attracting more tourists. An open-air theatre has also been planned. The DTPC has been allotted `1.1 crore to carry out the beautification work.“The proposal is to construct a connecting walkway in the three-acre land. The landscape will have designed lamps and seats, food courts and lawn. A canopy will be formed with shade trees so that people can relax here.Various programmes will be conducted at the open-air theatre,” DTPC secretary T N Jayashankar said. He added that since the building was located in the middle of the town, sound pollution was very high. “We will plant bamboo bushes which will act as the sound barrier. We will also restrict two-wheelers from entering the court premises. A parking area will be constructed at the other end of the compound so that the serenity of place is not disturbed,” Jayashankar said. The project is expected to be complete within six months.
