CHENNAI: A plea has been made in the Madras High Court to restrain the media from publishing or propagating alleged bribe-tapes and financial transactions said to have been discussed over phone, till a complaint filed in this connection attained finality. Originally, under Sec 39 of the CrPC, advocate P Sundararajan had moved the High Court highlighting the tape issue and Justice K Suguna restrained the Sessions Court in Puducherry, before which the Sankararaman murder case had been pending, from proceeding further for eight weeks. In his present petition, K Thiru Murugan of Virugambakkam submitted that Sundararajan had no locus standi and he could not use Sec 39. At best, he could give only information in respect of commission of any offence to the nearest magistrate or police officer. He had not proved as to how his individual right or interest was affected. His petition was not maintainable, Thiru Murugan said, and sought to implead himself as a party in the case. Justice Suguna posted the matter for further hearing on Friday.
