Property worth crores of rupees was burnt down as a major fire broke out at a city mall, police said on Wednesday.
The blaze occurred on the second floor of Crossroads Mall late on Tuesday night and spread to the third. As thick plumes of smoke began emanating from the building, security guards deployed at the entrance of the mall went in and reported the matter to the police.
There were 12 people inside the mall when the fire broke out. However, all of them escaped unharmed, police sources said. It took police and fire brigade personnel nearly two hours to extinguish the blaze which seems to have been caused by a short circuit.
Though the exact amount of property destroyed in the fire is still being calculated it must run into crores of rupees, police officials said. The fire could have caused heavy casualty but luckily it was closing time with just a few people around, they said.
