PUDUCHERRY: Film maker Rajiv Menon will submit a proposal to Chief Minister N Rangasamy to set up a film city in the Union Territory,  said G S Ravichander, proprietor of PonyRavi Productions. Speaking to reporters here on Thursday, he said the film maker was ready with the blueprints and he would submit them within the next10 days.Ravichander said the project needs an initial investment of `50 crore and at least 25 acres of land.As a first step, Rajiv Menon had planned to station one shooting unit permanently in Puducherry to enable film makers to produce short films and documentaries, he said.Ravichander said the film city would be modelled on the lines of Ramoji Rao film city in Andhra Pradesh and would have shooting floors, sets, dubbing and recording studios. Tourism in Puducherry would get a further push with the setting up of the film city. He pointed out that the territory had benefited in several ways after Oscar Award-winning director Ang Lee shot his film ‘Life of Pi’ here. The shooing for the film went on for about six months, nearly 450 rooms in various hotels were booked and nearly `100 crore was paid as rent to them. He also pointed out the rent paid for the use of various locations and the revenue earned by the local bodies.Ravichander said donations were given to temples, mosques and churches by the film producers.PonyRavi Productions also issued an apology for the inconvenience caused to the public  following the concentration of crowds which had caused an obstruction to traffic flow. Ravichander said care would be taken to ensure that the public was not affected during shoots in future.
