BANGALORE: In order to publicise the upcoming exhibition of the artist Rumale Chennabasaviah’s paintings, the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) displayed a wrap of his paintings on two of its Volvo buses at Shanthinagar on Saturday. The National Gallery of Modern Art will be organising ‘Varna Mythri - Centenary Retrospective 2011’ which will showcase Rumale Chennabasaviah’s works from December 18 to January 31. The BMTC will be displaying the wraps on  two buses plying between Kempegowda Bus Stand to Kadugodi (335E) and Electronic City to Bangalore International Airport (BIAS-8) to express its support for the artist. Born in 1910, Channabasavaiah was a freedom fighter, an editor and a lawyer. He was  given the title of Distinguished Citizen of Bangalore posthumously by the city. Chennabasaviah turned to art only at the age of 53 and remained committed to the freedom movement before. BMTC feels this move would help to spread awareness about the exhibition and the city as the artist was renowned for his depiction of Bangalore’s flowering trees in his works. Also as part of this month’s Bus Day celebrations, the BMTC will be covering routes between Old airport Road (ITPL), Sarjapur Road, Hosur Road, Bannerghatta Road, Kanakapura Road, Mysore Road, Magadi Road, Tumkur Road, Bellary road, Thanisandra Road, Hennur Road and Old Madras Road.
