New Delhi: While cooling himself at Sagar Island on the occasion of Makar Sankranti, Sankaracharya of Puri Swami Nischalananda has sparked a fiery debate by raising the Prime Minister’s comments to the National Development Council on minorities.
Criticising Manmohan Singh's recent statement that minorities have the first right to the country's resources, Swami Nischalananda on Saturday said, "This Government will face the consequences".
Swami Nischalananda is currently in Sagar Island to take a dip at the annual holy festival at the confluence of the Ganga and Sagar, where aarti would be conducted on Sunday.
He said from January 3, he had started evening aarti on Puri's sea beach and this would be done once a year on the Makar Sankranti.
To support the cause of environment and the country's unity and integrity, he has decided to start 'Samudra aarti' at Gangasagar on Makar Sankranti day every year, he said.
He also said similar aartis would be started at Rameswaram and Kanyakumari soon.
He said he would also organise a meeting in Kathmandu to demand that the interests of Hindus in Nepal are safeguarded after the transition from monarchy to democracy.
He said even after India's partition, Hindus have to raise their voices to demand their rights.
The Sankaracharya also demanded a 24-hour channel to propagate the Hindu view of life on various issues.
"The language of the channel should be Sanskrit and it should propagate the Hindu views on science, health, medicine, nutrition, economic and social issues," he said.
