BANGALORE: The residents of T Dasarahalli, especially the senior citizens, are waiting for the horticulture department of Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) to take up some measures to preserve the one and only park—Pipeline Park in their area. The park was developed by the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) under special scheme and inaugurated on September 15, 2010. It is convenient place for the people to walk during  morning and evening hours. Most of the people who alight from the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport bus (No. 250L) on the main road prefer this park to reach Maheswarinagar and other areas. The BDA had put up number of concrete benches for the benefit of visitors and also planted some saplings but has forgotten about its existence after inauguration. “The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike authorities, who are supposed to maintain this park, have to take some measures to cover the open drain with concrete slabs. “The open drain has become a nuisance for us. We have to search for handkerchief while passing through the park,” says Shylaja Dilipkumar, a resident. The other problem of T Dasarahalli Ward is that residents are yet to get Cauvery water. They have to depend on borewells for water. The BBMP had dug 17 borewells last year to mitigate water woes. It was said that one among the 17 borewells failed to yield water. Many residents, who could not afford to buy drinking water from private water suppliers, have to go to Ayyappa Temple to fetch water. It was said that the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board had laid pipes last year but water is yet to be supplied. “We cannot afford to buy drinking water. We have to go to Ayyappa Temple to fetch drinking water,’’ said K Chenne Gowda, a resident of Maheswarinagar.Meanwhile, Puttamma, Corporator, says that the BWSSB is expected to supply Cauvery water by April 2012. “The residents have to depend on borewells for drinking water. I have been pressurising the BWSSB to supply Cauvery water as early as possible,"says Puttamma.Agreeing with the residents on the need of developing the Pipeline Park, Puttamma said that she had already sent a proposal to take up Rs 5 lakh worth of development works at the park. This is the only park in the entire ward. Last year, BBMP had not sanction any money for the development of this park. I hope at least the horticulture department officials will do something for the development of this park as early as possible,’’ says the Corporator. However, the Corporator adds that BBMP sanctioned  Rs 5 crore to take up various development work last year. Many drains were strengthened and a school building was also constructed. Among the Rs 5 crore, around Rs 30 lakh was spent to construct the school building. She said, “The ward needs more pourakarmikas to keep it free from garbage menace. As of now, there are only 20 pourakarmikas. It needs a minimum of 70 pourakarmikas.”
