Concerned over illicit use of drug among youths, Rajasthan government is going to run a special drive across the state to curb the menace.
The decision was taken at a high-level joint meeting of medical and health, education and social justice departments in Jaipur.
"A joint campaign will be carried out across the state to check illegal use of drug, particularly among youth. A special de-addiction drive will also be launched," MoS Social Justice Arun Chaturvedi told reporters.
"We have prepared a proposal and after final discussion with Chief Minister, the campaign will be launched shortly," Chaturvedi informed.
In the meeting attended by ministers and senior officers of all the three departments and police officials, issues relating with rehabilitation of children involved in begging and other petty works, availability of illegal drugs and its uses were discussed.
"Drug use among youths is on rise which is matter of serious concern. We have formed a joint strategy to address this issue. Medicines which are used by drug addict people were identified and all possible steps will be taken to prevent illegal use of such drugs," he said.
The minister said that initially police department has been directed to start checking illegal drug and liquor availability with immediate effect. "Since consumption is likely to go high due to new year celebrations, police officers have been directed to focus on checking drug uses," he informed.
