Mumbai: Following Sunday’s violence, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena continued to protest the presence of the north Indian community in Mumbai. The angry mob took to the streets smashing taxis and burning effigies of Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan.

The Sena also targeted Mumbai local trains, raising slogans against the community. The enraged Sena members pushed and slapped north Indian commuters threatening them to either leave Mumbai or face the consequences.

The Maharashtra government says it's doing its best to protect everyone's interests.

“There is a full protection for those who are living in Mumbai. We don't differentiate. This is the policy of the government,” Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh was quoted as saying on Monday.

The protests took place while Bachchan was not present in Mumbai. He had reportedly flown to Jaipur to celebrate son Abhishek Bachchan’s birthday.
