An order copy awarding death sentence to 15 PFI activists convicted of murdering RSS activist Ranjith Sreenivasan accessed by CNN-News18 detailed the fatal attack of December 2021.
Calling it an “unusual political murder”, the order copy noted that the attack on Sreenivasan was “aimed at such parts of the body in succession where even a single blow would have been sufficient to cause death in the ordinary course”.
Denuding the lower part of the body showed an element of perversity, the copy further read.
The brutality of the attack on a single person orchestrated by 12 persons in conspiracy with three others could be revealed from the scene of occurrence as parts of the skull and a tooth were seen scattered, the court stated.
Crime Committed With Planning, Victim Never Provoked Accused: Court
The court ruled that the attack on the defenceless victim, who had never provoked the accused and the commission of the offence was a pre-meditated one, adding that the only mitigating circumstance, the age of the accused would not be balanced with the aggravating circumstances already pointed out.
‘Crime Committed in Comfort Zone’
The most important aspect is that the heinous crime was committed in the comfort zone – in the house of the victim, in the presence of his mother, wife and minor child and he was denuded showing the brutality of the crime, the court said.
On December 19, 2021, the BJP OBC Morcha state secretary, was brutally attacked and allegedly killed in his home, in front of his family by PFI activists.
The accused – Naisam, Ajmal, Anoop, Mohammed Aslam, Abdul Kalam alias Salam, Saffaruddin, Manshad, Jaseeb Raja, Navas, Sameer, Nazir, Zakir Hussain, Shaji Poovathungal, and Shernas Ashraf were affiliated with the now-banned Popular Front of India (PFI) and its political wing, the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), were handed a death sentence.
The sentence was pronounced by Mavelikkara Additional District Judge V G Sreedevi.
